How to use inversion
Inversion is the idea that problems are best solved in reverse.
Start at the end
Embracing inversion is one of my first principles. (First principles are axioms or ideals that serve as the foundation for my thinking.)
To practice inversion, start with where you want to end up and work backwards.
Bad endings are even better
To practice deeper inversion, don't start with where you want to go. Start at your worst possible outcome.
“Problems frequently get easier if you turn them around in reverse. In other words, if you want to help India, the question you should ask is not ‘how can I help India,’ it’s ‘what is doing the worst damage in India and how do I avoid it? – Charlie Munger
By focusing on outcomes and working backward, thinking is directed towards productive outcomes. Any degree of inversion provide perspectives. Regular practice can help you reorient your thinking and approach.
Inversion is a simple principle, but the most effective principles are.
If you know exactly what you need to do, act with precision. If you don't know what to do next, start with inversion.
