Why We Offered Podcasters $100,000

In 2020, Bryce helped Supercast launch the world's biggest podcasting competition.
Why We Offered Podcasters $100,000

I worked with Supercast and Tiny to create a contest showcasing the value of potential of paid memberships in podcasting. With over $100,000 in prizes, it's one of the world's largest podcasting competitions ever.

What it is

A six-month competition with a $100,000+ grand prize

Why I made it

Because experience helps people understand the value of something.

Tiny understands business on the internet. They invested in Supercast, a company that helps you turn your podcast into a business. Every podcaster that uses Supercast immediately sees the value of paid memberships:

  • it's predictable revenue,
  • it's usually more revenue than ads (or additional revenue)
  • it prioritizes your audience's needs over your sponsors, and
  • it's not that hard to set up.

Tiny wants to invest in more creators. Supercast wants to showcase the value of their service. And podcasters deserve to get paid—they just need to be shown how (which is why the contest was released alongside a paid membership guide).

Who it's for

Podcasters with over 1000+ dedicated listeners

Anyone can start a podcast. Almost anyone can eventually turn that podcast into a business—eventually.

After poring over Supercast and Patreon data, we found the ideal audience foundation for a paid membership starts at around 1,000 listeners. You can begin with less, and you'll probably have an easier time with more, but as a rule of thumb, it's a great starting point.
